    Road transportation forum discusses the prospects of the sector, strategies and challenges over the next 20 years.
    ​      His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Prince of the Eastern Province sponsors on Wednesday 18 / May / 2016 forum (road transportation and its role in the national economy), organized by the   Asharqia Chamber represented by the  road transportation committee, with the participation of a number of government agencies and private companies, in the main headquarters of the Chamber in Dammam.
    The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber Abdulrahman bin Saleh Al Ataishan  said that the Forum will address two axes, researched in two sessions, the first axis discusses the (the role of the transportation sector in economic movement) a number of issues, most prominently the reality and prospects of road transportation , and the strategies and challenges of transportation over the next 20 years and the second axis: (success stories), where some successful experiences will be presented in the field of transportation and logistics, for a number of large companies.
    Ataishan added that the Asharqia Chamber as it organizes this forum it realizes the importance of this sector, which is one of the most prominent featurs of growth and development to the nations, as the road transportation embodies the reality of  the general situation in the commercial, industrial and tourism aspects, and even social, through transportation, goods and raw materials are provided , thus, road transportation is an active support of  the trade and industry, also through transportaion the communication between distant regions of the same country happens, that is why road transportation is one of the main supporting activities for both industry and trade, tourism and culture.
    Based on these data Ataishan stressed that the Chamber being keen to activate all that would support the national economy, raising the private sector level, has embraced organizing this event, eyeing a number of obstacles facing the sector, seeking to overcome them in coordination with the concerned authorities of the sector .. expressing the hope that this forum will achieve the desired success, with the cooperation of all government and civil agencies concerned with transportation.
    Ataishan expressed his hope of a bigger participation in this forum, by individuals, institutions and related companies and public committes, as their participation is in addition to the forum, and will serve the overall goal for everybody, which is activating the role of the transportation sector in the overall development, by overcoming the challenges, and being opened to the development suggestions.
    For his part, a member of the board of directors and chairman of the land transport in the Chamber Bandar bin Rafea Al Jabri said that countries are racing to develop the land transportation, most prominently the railways and ground fleets, which have become part of the daily life for a number of countries, including the Kingdom, which began early on the development of the linking road between regions, cities and provinces of the country, so we have a network of ground lines of the longest lines and largest in the world, no doubt that one of the most prominent results of them is the presence of  the national products and (imported) between regions,
    He pointed  that the country- after  the achievements of the  road network which is estimated at 221.4 thousand kilometers, according to the latest available statistics which has proceeded to another step in supporting of this achievement, which is to begin in the railway network development which is one of the means of appropriate land  transportation to the reality of growth the country is witnessing, as we will gain the results of the railway network, which will connect the east of the country with its west, also we have gained the results of the road network, and the outcome of all this is the additional value  to our national economy through the provision of transportation means, and open new channels for investment, all are going to be the best supportive of the  growth and development in the country, both economic and social development.
    al Jabri said that the economic importance of the road transportation sector is growing day after day, despite the development of other means of  transportation (in air and sea), and despite the existing competition between the three sectors, however, road  transportation has a number of features that make it indispensable to any economic activity in the transportation of goods, primary materials and people, especially between the nearby locations which are of a geographically complex nature, many of the cocuntries lack these means, but it cant prompt the existence of road  transportation .. therefore the importance of this forum which we seek through to spot the positive effects of the development of the road  transportation sector to the national economy.
